Apple to launch ultra-thin MacBook Pro with Retina Display: Report

Apple is preparing to launch a completely revamped 15-inch MacBook Pro model this year, 9to5Mac reports citing trusted sources that have handled prototype casings and components. According to these sources, the 2012 MacBook Pro will be much thinner than the earlier ones and will lose the optical drive, just like the current MacBook Air. However, unlike the MacBook Air, the edges won’t taper and will retain the contours of the existing MacBook Pro line-up.

One of the biggest changes of the new MacBook Pro will be the addition of Retina Display, just like Apple’s iOS devices. This is likely to become a standard for all Apple displays. The new MacBook Pro will also feature a Thunderbolt port as well as a USB 3.0 port, though the ethernet port is likely to get the boot. Like we reported yesterday, the new MacBook Pro is all but certain to be based on Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge processor though it is rumored that Apple might let go of AMD GPU for Nvidia.
Apple is expected to unveil the new MacBook range at WWDC, which begins on June 11. In case you are looking at buying a new MacBook Pro, you might want to hold it back till you see what Apple announces next month.
