Ratio of Macs sold in comparison to PCs reaches high levels of the mid 90’s

It is a well-known fact that Microsoft dominates the PC industry with Windows. The Mac has seen a steady growth pattern over the past few years, thanks to the Macbooks and the iMacs but Apple hardly makes a big deal its growth, while it focuses on its mobile products. Analyst Horace Dediu of Asymco has posted an interesting chart which shows the ratio of Macs sold in comparison to PCs and charts the ratio right from the eighties when Windows was not that popular.
Interestingly, according to the chart, the ratio of PCs sold in comparison to the Mac has dipped to the levels of the mid nineties from the peak of 2004. Of course, back in 2004 Microsoft was yet to go through the debacle of Windows Vista and Apple had only recently transitioned to the Mac OS X in 2001. The after effects of the Vista debacle are quite clear and combined with the mind share Apple started to command with products like the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and the iMac, which to date are considered decidedly premium and more user friendly when compared to their Windows based brethren.
That said, still the marketshare of Macs does not hold a candle in front of their Windows competition, but Apple does manage to eek out a lot more profit than companies like Dell, HP and Lenovo who have very low-profit margins.
