Capdase Canvas Folio Case for the new iPad review

Buying an iDevice is just the beginning. What really begins is a cycle of buying new accessories, mostly to protect the iGadget and at times to improve its functionality. With me it is usually about iPad cases and covers. In the past two-and-a-half years of owning all the three generations of the iPad, I have spent a fortune on iPad cases, which could have easily got me another iPad. The obsession continues to this day. My current favorite is the Capdase Canvas Folio case that fits the iPad 2 as well as the new iPad perfectly. Read on for my review.
The thing with iPad cases is they are usually very expensive and one cannot tell whether a case is good or not unless used for a while. There are some cases that initially look and feel pretty but eventually turn out to have some serious shortcomings that render them useless. Some of the cases I have used tend to have small openings that are big enough for dust to accumulate while some others have a slit for the charging dock but the charging connector doesn’t fit well enough and the case needs to be removed every time. These are things one cannot judge by just looking at the case.
I have been using the Canvas Folio Case from Capdase as my primary iPad case. Unlike other leather or Rexine cases, I love the look and feel of canvas. Capdase claims it has added a waterproofing layer on top of canvas, which gives it a little sheen. Not only does it feel good to hold, the designers have managed to keep the whole case thin without compromising on having a thick enough front cover to protect the display. The front cover is smart, in the sense it has magnets that turn the display on and off when the cover is opened or closed. The slits for the connector dock, the 3.5 mm headphone jack and camera are perfectly matched.
Having said that, there is just one thing that I miss in the Canvas Folio Case – the front cover does not fold like Apple’s Smart Cover to become a stand. Instead, it folds like the first generation iPad case from Apple by fitting its edge into a slot on the rear of the case. Had Capdase provided that, it would have been my perfect iPad case.
Nevertheless, the Capdase Canvas Folio Case is easily a case I would recommend just for its overall finish, the feel and ruggedness of canvas and the snug fitting. It is available from StuffCool.com for Rs 3,250 with free shipping in India.
