Samsung says Pentile AMOLED display more reliable than RGB AMOLED displays

The Samsung Galaxy S3 was perhaps the most anticipated device of the year. However, the launch event left everyone somewhat underwhelmed because of the plastic industrial design and the 4.8-Inch Pentile Super AMOLED HD display. At the minimum, we expected an RGB Super AMOLED Plus Panel on the Galaxy S3, but that was not to be.
Samsung has defended its decision to implement the Pentile panel in the Galaxy S3. In an interview with MobileBurn.com Samsung’s Phile Berne revealed that Pentile AMOLED displays were more reliable than the RGB ones. He explained with a Pentile layout, the sub pixels were arranged as RGBG (red, green, blue, green), which meant that there were more green sub pixels than red or blue. This he says is the reason Pentile AMOLED displays last longer as RGB matrix AMOLED display have a tendency to deteriorate faster.
