Nintendo reveals Wii U controller, Mii Wara Wara social network in pre-E3 presser [update: video]

Nintendo has finally unveiled the Wii U gamepad in a pre-E3 presentation. This next generation console has a touchscreen and will also connect with a television for viewing action on a bigger display. Nintendo has tweaked the design a bit from the prototype it had showed last year and added joysticks as well as an NFC reader/writer along with gyro and motion sensors. It can also act as a TV remote control.

Nintendo also showed off what it calls Mii Wara Wara that will be a social network of Wii U gamers. Users will not just be able to see friends and their friends, but also everyone who’s playing the same game, making it a social network for gamers to interact and hopefully share tips and tricks. Nintendo will also eventually release a webapp to allow gamers to access their “Miiverse” from any Internet browser or smartphone.
Nintendo also revealed a Pro Game Controller, which looks similar to that of the Xbox 360 for old-school games that do not take advantage of the dual-screen feature of the Wii U gamepad. Nintendo will reveal more on Tuesday when E3 officially begins.
