Twitter launches app for Nokia S40 feature phones

After signing a global agreement with MediaTek, Twitter has launched a native app for Nokia’s S40 running feature phones. This will bring the social networking app to the handset vendor’s popular Asha series of phones apart from other entry-level, affordable feature phones.
Twitter for S40 has the same look and feel as the default Twitter app for smartphones. There is the familiar row of quick access icons on the bottom to access the timeline, mentions and new followers, discovering content, see one’s profile and of course, write new tweets.
It is a little surprising that Twitter has decided to launch a native app for Nokia’s feature phone platform while ignoring Symbian, which is its smartphone platform. Even though Nokia has moved on to Windows Phone as its primary smartphone platform, Symbian accounts for over 70 percent of all Nokia smartphones shipped even today.
Future S40 phones will have Twitter pre-installed on them, just like how it will be on MediaTek powered devices. Nokia S40 feature phone users can download the Twitter app for free from here.
