Talking to the Seattle Times Microsoft’s Jeff Hansen said “The new logo, which incorporates a multicolored Windows symbol in addition to the “Microsoft” name in straightforward, lighter type, is intended to “signal the heritage but also signal the future — a newness and freshness.”
Interestingly, while the new logo integrates a Windows like logo, it is multicolored, unlike the new Windows logo that is now just blue. The logo in fact borrows from the color codes of various products from Microsoft’s product line, like blue for Windows, Red for Office and Green for Xbox.
The letters ‘f’ and ‘t’ are integrated in the logo as one and Microsoft has used the Segue font, a font owned by the company.
Clearly this is the biggest year in the history of Microsoft and we are seeing an unprecedented level of integration in its entire product line. All products including Windows, Windows Phone, Office, Outlook.com, Skydrive, Xbox and Windows Azure are in for a revamp and the adoption of the new ‘Metro’ like logo is seem like the final culmination of this integration.
