Samsung Galaxy S Duos and Galaxy Y Duos Lite launched in India

While everyone gears up for the big Nokia and Microsoft announcement in the evening, Samsung has quietly launched two new smartphones in India – the Galaxy S Duos and the Galaxy Y Duos Lite. The Android smartphones are priced at Rs 17,900 and Rs 6,900 respectively and both have dual-SIM capabilities.

The Galaxy S Duos is basically a retooled version of the original Galaxy S smartphone in a new Galaxy SIII inspired casing with dual-SIM capabilities and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The smartphone features a 1GHz single-core processor, 512MB of RAM, a 4-inch display with a resolution of 800×480 pixels, a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash, a VGA front facing camera, a 1,500 mAh battery 4GB of internal memory, and a microSD card slot with support for up to 32GB of memory. Notably, like the Galaxy Ace Duos the phone features the dual-SIM always on mode, that forwards calls from SIM 2 to SIM 1if the user is on a call on SIM 1.
The Galaxy Y Duos Lite, on the other hand, is a more affordable phone with similar dual-SIM capabilities. It features a 2.8-inch display with a resolution of 240×320 pixels, a 832MHz single-core processor, a 2-megapixel camera, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 3GB of internal memory, microSD card support for up to 32GB of memory and a 1,200 mAh battery. For the Galaxy Y Duos Lite, Samsung is offering free 1GB per month 3G data for first six months for Reliance customers. 2G customers can avail unlimited data for the first six months for free and this again is only for Reliance customers.
Interestingly, the Galaxy Y Duos Lite features slightly toned down specifications in comparison to the already available Galaxy Y Duos which has a slightly larger 3.14-inch display, a higher megapixel count on the camera at 3.15-megapixels, and a slightly large 1,300 mAh battery. All these higher specs convert to a higher price for the Galaxy Y Duos at Rs 8,490 according to FlipKart.
