According to Samsung, it has 6 million units in Europe, 4.5 million units in Asia, 4 million in North America and 2.5 million in its home country South Korea. Previously, as of June it had sold 24 million units of the Galaxy S and 28 million units of the Galaxy II.
Admittedly, the Galaxy S III has been launched at a time when its direct competitors in terms of specs were its Android compatriots from HTC and LG and not a new iPhone. Clearly, Samsung has made the most of it while consumers have waited for the next iPhone which is scheduled to unveiled to the world on September 12.
While Samsung intends to improve the Galaxy S III experience further with an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, we cannot help thinking the phone is in for stiff competition in the form of the next iPhone and an armada of Windows Phone 8 devices led by the recently launched Nokia Lumia 920, which admittedly packs in some really nasty photography chops in a well designed shell.
