Google adds Google Play seller support and buyer’s currency in India, developers can sell paid apps and consumers can buy in Rupees

After dabbling with the idea of allowing Indian developers to sell apps Google had a bit of a change of mind. It would appear the search giant had another change of heart and it has announced Google Play seller support in India. What does this mean? Simply put developers in India will be able to sell apps on the Google Play store.

Developers will be able to leverage paid applications, in-app purchases and subscriptions and Google will make monthly payouts to their local banks. Devs can start right away by signing in to the developer console and setting up a Google checkout merchant account. If developers already have free apps published on the Play store then they can monetize those apps by adding in-app purchases and subscriptions.
One of the oddities for the Google Play store when compared to the App store is that it allows developers to choose the currency of their choice. While this may sound convenient for the developer, the end-consumer ends up paying in a variety of currencies ranging from the US Dollar, to the UK Pound or the Euro, even when the price is shown in Indian Rupees on Google Play. This is set to change from October 25, reports AndroidOS.in.
Google is enforcing ‘Buyers Currencies’ in Indian Play store as well that will enable consumers to pay for their apps in Indian Rupees, and not in the currency of chosen by the developer. Developers have till October 25, to set their app placements in INR after which Google will automatically assign INR prices for every month based on the listing price.
If the developer does not assign the country specific app price, then Google will automatically once a month pre-assign a currency price which has been converted from the US dollar price into INR on the basis of the daily exchange rate. If the developer manually sets a price for a particular currency then the Google Play market will not override the price.
