Nokia has officially announced prices for the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 smartphones in along with pre-orders in Europe. In Russia, the Lumia 920 has been priced at $801 (Rs 42,597), while the Lumia 820 has been priced at $640 (Rs 34,000). In Germany, Nokia is pricing the Lumia 920 at $836
(Rs 44,458) and the Lumia 820 for $643 (Rs 34,194). Likewise in Italy the pricing for the Lumia 920 is locked at $771(Rs 41,000) which is slightly cheaper than Germany and Russia.
Russian customers can in fact pre-order both the smartphones immediately, with the Lumia 920 being offered in yellow, red, white, and black and the Lumia 820 available in red, white, and black.
Assuming that Nokia launches the Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 at the European prices in India at the prices they unveiled for Europe we find the Lumia device to be a bit overpriced considering what the competition is offering. Looking at the current prices one can easily buy an unlocked iPhone 5 at the price for what Nokia is offering for the Lumia 820. The Lumia 920, on the other hand, would be about Rs 10,000 more expensive than the retail price of the Samsung Galaxy S III, which currently retails at approximately Rs 34,000.
We really like the new Lumia devices and the features Nokia has demonstrated but we are not sure if there will be many takers for them at these price points.
