Apple iOS 6 to come with 3D maps this summer

A couple of weeks back we reported that Apple will use an in-house solution for the maps app built into iOS 6, and will stop using Google’s solution. Today, our colleagues stateside at BGR Classic have obtained exclusive information and photos of some UI elements of Apple’s new maps app. This application will have 3D mapping, a new UI and a brand new navigation bar. In addition to this, Apple might also change the color theme on iOS for the iPhone from Blue to Silver like on the iPad.
The iPhone version of the app is quite similar to Google Maps on Android and features a locate button on the bottom left corner. For the 3D capabilities of the app, Apple will use technology it acquired by C3 Technologies. The image above is actually a mock up of the maps app and not a screenshot, but according to the BGR Classic sources they represent a very close approximation of what the app will look like in the final build of the OS.
Currently, Apple is putting finishing touches to the 3D mapping feature and is being tested in build 10A3XX of iOS 6.
