Evernote 4.0 revamps Android UI, brings in a new swipe interface

Popular note taking application, Evernote, has hit version 4.0 and with that keeping in with the interface changes brought in by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the app UI has been completely overhauled.
Evernote proudly claims every screen in the app has been redesigned. To get the ball rolling, users get a brand new home screen, that combines note creation options with buttons that take you directly into notebooks, tags and places. Swiping is a new UI theme and users can jump in and out feature using swipe gestures. Horizontal swiping is now a major way to navigate through the app. When viewing Notebooks, Tags, and Places horizontal swiping moves the user from one category to the next. If one is on the home screen, a swipe to the left jumps the user into the note list. Swipe back any time and one returns to the home screen.
The note and notebook list feature has also received a major upgrade. The note feature has been redesigned in such a way that it is now easier to browser content. And for the notebook list, the app brings together the users personal notebooks and the ones that others have shared with him/her into a single view.
A major part of the UI overhaul in Android ICS was the introduction of Action Bars. And now Evernote also has these new Action bars. The Action Bar runs along the bottom of several screens. The bar shows options that relate to the screen the user is on. For instance, if you are viewing a note, the Action Bar allows you to edit, share, tag, and perform other note-related actions. On the note list, tapping the Action Bar can launch a new note, search through notes, and change the sort order.
The new version of the app also makes reading of content easier. Evernote has taken pains to eliminate unnecessary UI elements that detract from the reading experience. For this Evernote has added a function called note view. So when one is reading a note, as one starts scrolling, all navigation slides away, giving the user a full-screen reading view. However, when editing or sharing is needed, the user can just tap the screen.
As with previous versions of Evernote users can assign places where they took a note. The UI of this feature has also been revamped. The new Places screen displays notes by creation location.
Other new features include a revamp of settings which expose more features to the user, instead of hiding them behind contextual menus and also a number of bug fixes have been made to make the app more stable. Check out the video of the new Evernote app running on a HTC One X below.
