We reported that Samsung would launch the Galaxy S III in India on May 31 and is taking pre-orders for its flagship smartphone without revealing its price. However, now we might have a fair idea of the price-point, thanks to Ebay India, where pre-orders are going up.The Ebay.in listing page suggests the Galaxy S III will be available for Rs 39,999, but the device will ship after June 1. We concur with this date as we expect the device to be available in the first week of June.
However, a word of advice – from our past experience, we have realized it does not make sense to pre-order the latest and greatest smartphone from any vendor. Not only do you not know the price at which it will be launched but you also end up paying the MRP and not the street price, which could easily be Rs 1,000 or so lesser. Hold your horses, we say and wait for Samsung to launch the phone on May 31.
Update: It seems the Galaxy S III listing on EBay India is probably a hoax as the person who listed it has just raised it up to Rs 44,700. However, multiple sources have confirmed to us that the Galaxy S III will be launched between Rs 36,000- Rs 40,000. Unless, of course, Samsung decides to bump the price owing to a week Indian Rupee, which makes importing the device costlier.
