Apple to definitely announce iOS 6 today at WWDC

Apple’s annual developer event is less than 24 hours away and workers are busy giving finishing touches to Moscone Center in San Fransisco with banners and other marketing material. However, unlike every year, this time Apple has not covered its upcoming, unannounced iOS 6 banner and it is open for all to see, as captured by a CNET photographer.
It is for certain that Apple will showcase the next iteration of its iPhone and iPad OS, albeit in only-for-developers beta stage. Considering the carelessness with which iOS 6 banners are on display, we have a feeling that it could just be the curtain raiser with more announcements lined up that have so far been shrouded in secrecy.
Read on for our thoughts on what could be announced tonight at WWDC.
Little is known about iOS 6 apart from rumors that it would bring deeper Facebook integration, just like iOS 5 brought Twitter integration, and letting go of Google Maps in favor of Apple’s own 3D maps. Apple might also bring new UI elements and probably support for a taller, higher resolution display for the next iPhone hidden somewhere in the source code.
Apart from iOS 6, Apple is expected to announce the final version of OS X Mountain Lion as well as new MacBook Pro and Air with Retina displays. Rumors also indicate a new SDK for Apple TV.
Of course, we will be covering everything that’s announced and not announced at WWDC tonight. Stay tuned!
