Karbonn intends to launch the Intel-powered smartphone in India by the end of this year, The Mobile Indian reports. So far, only Lava and Orange Telecom of France have launched smartphones running on Intel Medfield. However, Intel has agreements with Lenovo and Motorola to launch devices running on Medfield. Asus has also announced it will launch a Windows 8 tablet running on Medfield.
With its Medfield chipset that runs on x86 architecture, Intel is taking on traditional ARM architecture chipsets from the likes of Qualcomm, Texas Instruments and Samsung among others, to ensure it still has a role to play in the smartphone and tablet space.
