According to the report, Redmond had approached multiple metal chassis makers and it was estimating that the orders for the tablet could go as high as five million units by the end of 2012, but the chassis makers had to give up due to limited capacity caused by the unique manufacturing process demanded by the use of a metal composite of magnesium and aluminum, which Microsoft calls Vapor-Mag.
Additionally, it has been revealed that a Chinese company, which admittedly is a second tier supplier, is conducting the manufacturing for the casing and because it is achieving such a low yield, Microsoft is paying a lot of attention to the suppliers manufacturing process.
