Apple adds Bluetooth Sharing feature to iOS 6, paves way for connected devices

The latest iOS 6 beta 4, which was released earlier today, has more hints of what Apple might be launching at its September 12 event. While there has been a lot of buzz around the removal of YouTube from iOS 6, one feature that Apple has quietly added is Bluetooth Sharing. This feature would let apps share data over Bluetooth with other devices, a common feature on other platforms but was not yet available on iOS. However, rather than being able to transfer and save images, songs and other files over Bluetooth, we believe it will be about connected devices like iPod nano and others.
The description of Bluetooth Sharing matches with what we had heard last week about iOS getting a new feature to bridge the iPhone with other Bluetooth 4.0 enabled devices. Some of the suggested use cases could be to get iMessages, record and share voice notes, and even initiate calls from an iPod nano when it is paired with an iPhone.
From the latest iOS 6 beta 4, it becomes clear that users will have control over what apps can share data over Bluetooth. Users will be able to grant or revoke permissions by going to Settings > Privacy > Bluetooth Sharing and checking the list of apps. Of course, app developers will have to make the necessary additions to their apps to get it working.
