Sometime
back Microsoft had announced that there will be a version of its
popular Kinect motion sensing camera for Windows along with a software
development kit (SDK). Today, Kinect for Windows is officially available
in India for Rs 19,990 along with the SDK. The intention here is not to
only develop PC games that will harness the natural user interface
heralded by the Kinect but also professional applications.
Kinect on the Xbox 360 console has been a run away hit and has left it’s direct competitor, the Sony Move in dust. Over the last two years, Kinect has not only become a gaming phenomena, but rather a cultural phenomena with it making gaming more simplistic for non-gamers. Microsoft has been at the forefront of this new motion gaming revolution and it has made sure most of its in-house studio games have incorporated Kinect and voice recognition, to provide a more immersive gaming experience, even in hardcore games like Gears of War.

- Studio: A tool for debs to record and playback data, in turn shortening the development process.
- Human Interface Guidelines: Microsoft is providing a set of human interface guidelines for a decent implementation of the Natural User interface.
- Face tracking SDK: It provides a 3D mesh of facial features making the construction of 3D models easier.
- Skeletal Tracking: It tracks 10 joints including the head/shoulder/arms. Using this tool a developer can create optimized applications for seated or standing scenarios.
- Near Mode: Allows developers and businesses to create applications that tracks skeletal movement
