LG Optimus G with Qualcomm S4 Pro quad-core processor, in-cell display tech announced

LG today officially unveiled its flagship quad-core smartphone, the Optimus G, in Korea today. The first smartphone from a top-tier brand to run on Qualcomm’s Sapdragon S4 Pro chipset is also the first to use in-cell display technology that is expected to be used in the next iPhone as well. The Optimus G will be launched in Korea next month followed by a global roll-out. Read on for details.
The Optimus G features a 1.5GHz S4 Pro quad-core processor, which Qualcomm claims offers 40 percent performance improvement over existing quad-core processors and three-fold improvement in graphics performance. The 4.7-inch IPS+ in-cell display sports a resolution of 1280×768 pixels and LG claims the bezel (3mm) and the body of the phone match the color of the display when it is turned off. It also has a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front camera and 2GB of RAM. The Optimus G runs Android 4.0 ICS.
It also sports a 2100mAh battery, which according to LG offers 60 percent better performance thanks to a new technology developed by LG Chem. Unlike regular batteries, which have a lifespan of 500 charging cycles, the new battery offers 800 cycles, the Korean giant claims.
