Just hours before Apple launches the next generation iPhone, news has trickled out that Adam Cheyer, the Co-creator of the Siri voice artificial intelligence has left Apple.
Last October when Apple released the iPhone 4S, Siri was perhaps the headlining feature of the smartphone which led to a me-too arms race by Samsung (S-Voice in the Galaxy S III) and Google with Google Now in the Android 4.1 update.
Adam Cheyer was vice-president engineering before he left Apple. Originally, Bloomberg broke the news of his departure from Apple, but later he confirmed to Xconomy that he had left Apple “sometime ago due to personal reasons” and has “no plans” regarding his professional life.
Cheyer joined Apple in 2010 when Siri was acquired by Apple. His departure comes after Dag Kittlaus also another co-founder and CEO of Siri left Apple in 2011.
Apple has faced a lot of criticism related to Siri, as the performance of the voice AI is no where close to the depiction in advertisements. Weirdly, Siri was also one of the rare products that Apple launched in Beta.
