HTC to have two flagship smartphones

HTC is changing its strategy and will, for the first time, have two flagship products. The Taiwanese smartphone vendor is expected to unveil its first Windows Phone 8 smartphones later today and one of them is expected to be the Windows Phone 8 variant of the One X, its Android flagship.

“We will have two flagships,” Jason Mackenzie, HTC’s president of global sales and marketing told BBC ahead of the press event. “For Windows Phone 7 we didn’t provide enough differentiation to have that flagship status between what we were doing on Windows Phone 7 and what we were doing on Android. When we look at the market we think that was a mistake from us and from our competitors as well.”
A few hours ago, HTC teased the photo of what looks like a Windows Phone 8 smartphone on its Facebook and Twitter accounts. Earlier leaks have suggested a phone codenamed Accord could be launched as the HTC 8X and will be available in numerous colors including purple, green and others, similar to Nokia’s new Lumia line-up. HTC is taking Windows Phone 8 more seriously but it will have to deliver something extraordinary or face the possibility of getting drowned in the marketing noise from Samsung and Nokia, both of which have much larger marketing budgets than HTC.
