MapmyIndia mocks Apple’s maps in iOS 6, drops iOS navigation app to $29.99

Cupertino, we have a problem! And this time the problem is much bigger than “Antennagate” from the iPhone 4 or the pricing of the iPhone 4S.
We are talking about Apple’s own maps in iOS 6 that, let’s be frank, are something that resembles a toddler’s scribbles at some places or just a blank canvas at others. We have seen the map show Kolkata’s Howrah bridge on land and an intricate mesh of streets on the river. And let’s not get started on the absence of directions, leave aside navigation. The folks at MapmyIndia sense an opportunity here and have quickly slashed the price of their navigation application to $29.99 from $49.99.
I have been using this app on my iPhone 4 for over a year now and it has remained my most-used app apart from mail, Twitter and Facebook. It works offline and the details in the maps is second to none. MapmyIndia’s app is second only to Nokia’s navigation and that too only because of the absence of voice commands in Indian languages that Nokia’s maps provide. Considering Google has not yet launched its maps as an app on the App Store yet and it doesn’t provide offline turn-by-turn navigation anyway, I recommend buying MapmyIndia’s app. If you are on iOS 6 and have $29.99 to spare, close your eyes and buy it now from here.
