Apple iPad gets a refresh, fourth-generation iPad gets Apple A6X chipset

Apart from launching the iPad mini, Apple also refreshed the iPad with some minor changes. The third-generation iPad has been replaced with the new fourth-generation
iPad that has undergone no drastic design changes. Most of the changes are under the hood like a new Apple A6X chipset, which Apple claims is twice as fast as the A5X chipset found on the older iPad. Apple maintains that the fourth-generation iPad will retain the same 10 hour battery performance, which would mean we are also looking at a better battery. It also has a dual-band Wi-Fi modem now as well as a Lightning port instead of the old 30-pin connector. Even the front facing FaceTime camera has been bumped to 1.2-megapixel with 720p video shooting.
Like always, the iPad will start from $499 for the 16GB Wi-Fi variant and $629 for the 16GB Wi-Fi + Cellular model. From the looks of it, Apple has discontinued the third-generation iPad, which had the shortest shelf life for an Apple product of about six months. However, we expect Apple to continue supporting it in terms of software support at least for another year if not two.
