Everyone knew from the beginning that the iPhone 5 would be a blockbuster launch for the company.
The company itself came out and revealed that it had sold two million units in just pre-orders in the first 24 hours. Apple has now revealed that the numbers were quite staggering indeed as it managed to sell five million iPhone 5s in the first weekend.Apart from this, the company revealed that over a 100 million users had upgraded to iOS 6, that combined the iPhone, iPad and the iPod Touch.
When takes a look at these numbers, it is worth noting that the phone is only being sold in eight countries including – USA, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Australia. The count could have been higher had Apple been able to get more units in time for the launch and the weekend tally doesn’t include those who pre-ordered but are still waiting for their devices to be delivered.
Apple will start selling the iPhone 5 in another 22 countries starting September 28 and in over a 100 countries by the end of the year. In comparison, Samsung managed to sell 20 million units of the Galaxy S III in three months but that number includes units sold to carriers and are not exactly units sold to users.
Yes, the iPhone 5 is disappointing.
