Samsung to launch Galaxy S III Mini on October 11

Samsung’s head of mobile, JK Shin, has told iNews24 that the company would be launching a 4-inch variant of the Galaxy S III smartphone called the Galaxy S III Mini on October 11 in Germany.
Shin elaborated on the fact that the device will not be a low-end model but will be a top of the line model.
He noted that traditionally in the Android ecosystem top of the line smartphones tend to have displays in excess of 4.5-inch displays, but the Galaxy S III Mini will bring a full gamut of features to a smaller form-factor.
He also said that the European market had shown a lot of demand for a high-end model with a more pocketable form-factor.
Previously, the company had announced the Galaxy Note II at IFA also in Germany in late August. While the exact specs of the Galaxy S III Mini are unknown, it is plausible that Samsung could just throw in the exact specs of the S III in a smaller shell. Perhaps the biggest advantage of such a move would be a more easy to use form-factor and a sharper display provided Samsung chooses to keep the same screen resolution as the Galaxy S III.
This would also mean that Samsung would have a direct competitor to the new 4-inch iPhone 5 as the Galaxy S III has a much larger 4.8-inch display.
As of now the rumor mill suggests that the Galaxy S III Mini will have a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 800×480 pixels, a dual-core processor, a 5-megapixel camera, no NFC and will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. We expect the device to priced in the sub-Rs 30,000 price bracket.
