RIM prepping to axe 2,000 employees: Report

RIM has been going through a rough time but the worst is yet to come. In January, its co-Founders and co-CEOs stepped down to make way for Thorsten Heins and last week its global head of sales Patrick Spence left the company after fourteen years. Ever since January, senior managers have been steadily leaving the company and now The Globe and Mail is reporting RIM is prepping to layoff as many as 2,000 employees as a part of a global restructuring plan, which will make the company leaner. The announcement is likely to happen on June 1 or could even be earlier.
With BlackBerry 10 still some time away and BlackBerry 7.1 devices not doing well, RIM has no choice but to trim its staff to stay afloat. It has been late to respond to the onslaught ravaged by iOS and Android on its market share but it has always been quite a large company with it having more than 20,000 employees at one point. Currently the company has around 16,500 employees world wide and minus that figure by 2,000, RIM will be left with around 14,500, people.
