The Galaxy S III was perhaps the most hyped Android phone of the year before of course it was unveiled on May 3. Samsung went to considerable pains to make sure the device was not leaked to the press before the official unveiling. In a blog post Samsung has revealed how it protected the device from leaking. Apparently, Samsung engineers were not allowed to talk about the product even with their families.
For the security of the product, Samsung had set up a separate lab for the development of the device where access was restricted to a few. In fact when problems popped up, no one except the team handling the top secret project was authorized to intervene. Samsung developed, special prototype boxes to move the device including hallways of Samsung facilities.
Even the delivery of the prototypes was not outsourced to third parties but only done so in person.Samsung even went as far to make three different prototypes of the product to prevent leakage. Due to this, even small changes in the antenna was implemented for the three prototypes.
Because the device was protected so much Samsung engineer WooSun Yoon has said that “Even if people, inside or out of the campus, saw the device, I doubt they would have known what it was.”
