Google announces Compute Engine, a cloud service for businesses

Apart from the slew of consumer product related announcements at Google I/O, the search giant also announced a cloud based service for businesses called Compute Engine. Google says that Compute Engine is aimed at businesses needing large-scale computing. Google will service these businesses with the Compute Engine, which uses the same scalable infrastructure that Google uses.
For the first time third parties will have access to the power of Google’s homegrown data-centers. Google claims to provide 50 percent more computes per dollar and users will have access to unprecedented power, which combines to more than 700,000 cores. Additionally, these virtual machines will run Linux and multiple storage options will be provided.
