According to a ComputerWorld report, Intel will first release an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update before Jelly Bean though the company has not specified any timeline. Intel has been a late entrant in the smartphone space after missing its first opportunity with Windows Mobile in the early 2000′s. Since then chipset vendors like Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, Samsung, Nvidia and others have dominated the space with their ARM architecture based solutions that generate less heat and consume lower power.
We are yet to see any new Intel Medfield running smartphones and tablets after the initial wave of devices like the XOLO X900, Orange Santa Clara and a couple of devices from Lenovo. Motorola had a multi-year, multi-device agreement with Intel but we are yet to see any fruits of that partnership. Recently Indian brand Karbonn Mobiles announced plans to launch Intel Medfield-based devices.
