Apple’s iPhone 5 could have 8-pin connector, pair with iPod nano over Bluetooth

With a tentative launch date at hand, it is inevitable to not have an iPhone 5 rumor everyday and today is no different. The latest dope comes from the usually reliable folks at iLounge whose sources are telling them that the next iPhone will have an even smaller 8-pin connector rather than the 19-pins that have been rumored so far. The female connector (on the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad) will have 8 pins while the male connector (cables/docking ports) will have two lines of 8 pins allowing them to connect with the iDevice irrespective of the orientation of the connector. This is similar to what Apple already uses in Magsafe connectors on its MacBooks and it is only logical to implement the same concept to its handheld devices. Read on for more.
Another bit of rumor suggests that iOS 6 would get some new Bluetooth 4.0 features that will enable Bluetooth 4.0 capable devices to bridge with the iPhone. Some of the suggested use cases could be to get iMessages, record and share voice notes, and even initiate calls from an iPod nano when it is paired with an iPhone. This too sounds very much possible considering we have seen somewhat similar functionality on companion products for Android smartphones.
