LG begins mass production of in-cell display, possibly for the iPhone 5

LG Display has confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that it has begun mass producing in-cell displays. Its CEO Han-Sang-Beom told the Journal that inspite of production issues because of the complexity of the technology his company had started production in August.
Despite the revelation, Mr Beom failed to reveal the prospective customers of this display. Notably, the iPhone 5 has been rumored to feature an in-cell panel, but apart from that it is also quite possible that LG may start employing the technology in its own smartphones. Apple is one of the biggest customers of LG Display and the company manufacturers a large chunk of the displays on Apple products including the ‘Retina Display’ on the iPhone 4/4S.
