Microsoft starts taking registrations for $14.99 Windows 8 upgrade

Microsoft has opened registrations for the very enticing $14.99 Windows 8 upgrade for people who purchased a PC between June 2, 2012 and January 31, 2013. Registrations will remain open till 28 February 2013. Those who purchased a PC before June 2 will be available for $39.99 upgrade, which again is much cheaper than a full blown copy of Windows.
In India, however, the $14.99 upgrade turns out be slightly cheaper as Indian consumers will be able to upgrade their Windows 7 PCs for Rs 699. To register one has to log in to windowsupgradeoffer.com. The $14.99 update is only meant for PCs running variants of Windows 7, however the $39.99 upgrade for older PCs even includes upgrade paths for Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Windows 8 reached the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) milestone on August 1 and registered MSDN and TechNet developers can already download a three month trial of Windows 8. Microsoft has stopped offering its Release Preview, so before the official October 26 launch, this is the only way to legally access Windows 8.
