The $14.99 update is only meant for PCs running variants of Windows 7, however the $39.99 upgrade for older PCs even includes upgrade paths for Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Windows 8 reached the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) milestone on August 1 and registered MSDN and TechNet developers can already download a three month trial of Windows 8.
