Microsoft reportedly making 7-inch Xbox Surface

With the Surface RT tablet, Microsoft shocked the world and suddenly from being the biggest software company in the world it was also making hardware.  This of course did not please its partners, but Microsoft has been pretty adamant at calling itself a devices and
services company. It appears they are looking at the devices bit quite seriously and The Verge is reporting that Microsoft has another tablet in the works which it will call the Xbox Surface and will have a 7-inch display.
According to the report the Xbox Surface will not run the full version of Windows, but rather version that will have a custom Windows Kernel, perhaps tweaked for gaming scenarios. Additionally, the rumored device is said to run on a custom ARM processor with high bandwidth RAM primarily for gaming purposes. The report also claims that these initial specifications could be tweaked at the last moment to incorporate an unannounced Intel SoC solution.
While it is unknown what features of Windows 8/Windows RT will be retained some features like messaging are expected to stay onboard.
It will be interesting to see what Microsoft has up its sleeve, because apart from the iPad no tablet has gained a lot of traction especially in terms of gaming. Even the Nvidia Tegra 3 optimized Android tabs have not fared well, so this could be Microsoft’s play on the consumer tablet market.
While the report does not state anything about Smart Glass, but its inclusion will not be very surprising considering Microsoft has already made the app cross platform.
