Delhi’s grey markets have started taking pre-orders for the iPhone 5.
Some retailers are offering the iPhone 5 for as much as Rs 1,20,000 and are promising it will be available a couple of days after the phone goes on sale on September 21.
At the moment there is no clarity on which version (16GB, 32GB or 64GB) of the iPhone 5 will be sold. It is also unclear whether these phones would be factory unlocked or be jailbroken devices locked to a carrier. The iPhone 5 uses a Nano SIM, which is smaller and thinner than the Micro SIM, which was used on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. Unlike Micro SIMs where users could use a SIM cutter to convert a regular SIM, the same won’t be possible with Nano SIMs. Hence, users won’t be able to use the iPhone 5 as a phone till carriers don’t launch Nano SIMs in India.
BGR India had exclusively reported earlier that most Indian carriers are bringing Nano SIMs closer to the launch of the iPhone 5 in India.
