Microsoft has officially launched Windows 8, which it believes to be the reimaging of Windows since 95. Users can download Windows 8 Pro for Rs 1,999, which is a part of Microsoft’s special offer
that will stand for a limited period.
Users who have purchased PCs after June 2 running Windows 7 will be eligible for an update to Windows 8 for Rs 699. Microsoft will also offer Windows 8 in physical media (DVD) for approximated Rs 3,800.
System requirements for Windows 8 are the same as Windows 7, so each and every PC running Windows 7 will be easily upgradeable to Windows 8. Microsoft even contends that a number of PCs running Windows XP will also be compatible with Windows 8 if the minimum system requirements are met.
Notably, Microsoft has dramatically reduced the number of flavors of Windows. With Windows 8 there are only three versions – Windows 8 Pro, Windows 8 (which will only be available via pre-installed on PCs till February 1, 2013) and Windows RT, a version of Windows that is tailored for systems running ARM processors. Users can download Windows 8 Pro from here.
