Nokia
today announced it will be scaling down its signature annual event –
Nokia World – and will instead focus on multiple events across the
world. In the past, Nokia World has been the event where Nokia shows off
its flagship products and also outlined its strategy for the coming
year. This year, however, instead of hosting the world’s press, Nokia
will only invite its carrier and retail partners. It has also pushed the
event forward from September 25-26 to September 5-6.
For the media, Nokia will organize a
number of smaller events. But dates for them have not been announced. Is
this just a money saving exercise for Nokia, considering it is burning
cash too quickly? Or is there a bigger cause of worry related to Nokia’s
product portfolio? Normally, if a company does have a killer product,
it would tend to bite the bullet and invite at least some of the major
media outlets and show them off.
What do you think this is all about?
