Virtua Tennis Challenge lands on iOS for $4.99

Football has its Fifa franchise, Golf has the Tiger Woods franchise, NFL has the Madden franchise and Baseball has the now defunct Triple Play franchise. But what about tennis? Well, in the world of Tennis simulators things don’t get bigger than Virtua Tennis. Virtua Tennis is an icon in the echelons of sports simulations. The original, which landed on the ill-fated Sega Dreamcast blew all of us away with its ultra realistic graphics and arcade like gameplay dynamics, and today it arrives on the worlds most popular mobile gaming platform, iOS, in the form of Virtua Tennis Challenge for $4.99. An Android version of the game is also available in the Google Play store for the same price, though it was released earlier in March.
Make no mistake, this is no side game to support its mature console sibling. It’s a full fledged, feature rich Virtua Tennis game tailored especially for touch controls. Sega has designed satisfying swiping gestures, which work differently for different kinds of slice, top spin, lobs and drop shots.
Apart from this, the game feature, the famed carrier mode where the player builds skills of a custom player. This mode offers a wide variety of gameplay, including practice mini games and tournaments, all at varied difficulties. In addition to this, players can participate in exhibition single player and multiplayer match ups.
