Corning and Samsung collaborate to manufacture LCDs in China

Corning today announced it has tied up with Samsung to start an LCD glass substrate manufacturing facility in China. The new equity venture will be formed later this year and the plant is expected to begin production by the end of 2013. Corning is known for its scratch resistant Gorilla Glass displays that are widely used in smartphones and tablets.
The two companies already have another equity venture called Samsung Corning Precision Materials Company, which manufactures LCD glass in Korea. That company will be idling some of its manufacturing, which will be taken over by the new Chinese venture. This new facility would supply LCD glass substrates to Samsung Suzhou LCD Company, which caters to the growing demands of China and neighboring markets.
