Users will be able to read, write in Hindi, Tamil and Marathi through all the messaging functions of the device which will also include browsing the Internet and using applications downloaded from Google Play. This makes HTC the first major smartphone vendor to offer native support for local Indian languages across a line Android device, rather than the random odd device, specifically tailored for India.
The language update will come to the devices in the form of an Over the Air (OTA) update and HTC plans to add support for Bengali in August, which is just a few weeks away. Previously, HTC had started the trend of adding support for local Indian languages with the HTC Explorer, which was launched in Q4 of 2011.
