Qualcomm previews new quad-core S4 Snapdragon pro chip with Adreno 320 GPU

Qualcomm has previewed its latest quad-core Snapdragon S4 pro processor that is built on the ARM Cortex A15 platform. Apart from the processor, the SoC also heralds the new Adreno 320 graphics chip. According to AnandTech, the new chipset can have its core pushed up to 1.5GHz when all four cores are running and if a single core is running the chip can be clocked up to 1.7GHz, which is pretty heavy duty for an ARM chip. This also makes the new Snapdragon chipset the first quad-core ARM SoC built on a 28nm process, however previously even the dual-core Snapdragon S4 chip became the first dual-core chip to be built on a 28nm process.
With the Adreno 320 GPU, the graphical capabilities of the Snapdragon chip reaches parity with the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip. But it is quite plausible that Nvidia could leapfrog Qualcomm in the graphics department again when it launches the next Tegra chip, but that should happen sometime next year, so Qualcomm should still have some time on a level footing.
Apart from the Snapdragon S4 Pro, Qualcomm also talked about the S4 Prime chip, which is being built for A/V products, and it looks like these chips will be built to improve picture quality and speed up video decoding. AnandTech, reports that we could see these chips in TVs and Set top boxes. In stark contrast, it is expected that the Snapdragon S4 Pro chip will be used to power Windows RT based devices.
