Nokia has declined to comment on the rumor, while a Lenovo executive has flatly called this a joke.
“This must be a joke, there’s nothing ongoing ” said Gianfranco Lanci, who runs Lenovo’s operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Since announcing its strategic partnership with Microsoft in February 2011, Nokia’s shares have dropped more than 70 percent. Earlier in the year, Samsung usurped Nokia as the largest smartphone vendor in the world.
