Samsung claims to have integrated the newly launched Mali-T604 Quad-core GPU in the Exynos 5 Dual chipset, which will give it a substantial edge over the current generation 1.4GHz Exynos SoC used in the international version of the Galaxy S III, and the Galaxy Note 10.1. Interestingly, the SoC supports resolutions up to 2560×1600, a resolution that a BGR Classic report had predicted in the next generation of the Galaxy Tab. Additionally, the Exynos 5 dual chip will support stereoscopic 3D, OpenGL ES 3.0, OpenCL 1.1, and also DirectX 11 which points towards Windows RT support.
While Qualcomm has the edge in terms of the manufacturing process, Samsung clearly has added the graphical chops in the Exynos 5 dual to steamroll its competitor. In fact, the new Mali-T604 GPU is said to provide a 5X graphical bump from the previous generation Mali GPU. The feature parade does not end here for the Exynos 5 dual as it also incorporates USB 3.0 and SATA III controllers, for expansion of storage, and it supports low power RAM. Qualcomm had bested Samsung in this regard as the Exynos 4 supported 800MHz LPDDR3 while the Snapdragon S4 supported 500MHz LPDDR2, but now Samsung has improved the RAM support further by adding support for 400MHz LPDDR2 RAM.
Even the memory sub-set on Exynos 5 dual can be pump around 12.8Gbps of data, and we are not even talking about USB 3.0 and SATA III support. One thing that Samsung fails to mention is an integrated LTE radio. The presence of the LTE radio would have been the cherry on the cake, because currently only Qualcomm has an integrated LTE solution which gives it a massive advantage in the US.
