Samsung to unveil transparent displays at IFA

Samsung is all set to launch a series of transparent displays that have been built for commercial use. Dubbed the NL22B, it is an 22-inch transparent panel integrated in a cuboid casing with built-in video controls, protective glass and speakers. Another model that will be launched is being called the UD22B will provide a 21.6-inch panel with an ultra-thin bezel measuring just 5.5mm. This particular product is being aimed at creating artistic video walls, as Samsung says up to 100 units can be stacked together creating one unified screen.
Both these products are going to be showcased at IFA which begins in Berlin on August 31. Apart from this, Samsung claims that the NL22B transparent display will have a transmittance of 15 percent in comparison to 5 percent currently offered by displays in the market. In the case of the UD22B, Samsung claims that it has managed to reduce LCD power consumption by 30 percent which is frankly quite incredible and hard to believe.
To Samsung’s credit, the UD22B manages to conserve energy by adjusting the brightness in accordance with the surrounding and as these displays are meant for commercial placements where lighting is normally not an issue, this technique could possible work.
