Apple has revamped its iTunes 11 desktop music player and the new version will launch in October. For years, iTunes has been the central hub for Apple portable products, may it be the iPhone, iPad or the iPod, however it has been a cesspool of slowness as over the years Apple has not really innovated over the product.
The new app has been built from the ground up and it is nothing like its predecessor.
For starters, the dependence of the app itself has been greatly reduced with iCloud baked in and iOS devices will be able to sync content directly off iCloud. Perhaps, the most important change comes in the form of the overhauled UI which takes cues from the Music app on iOS. Additionally, Apple has put the content at the for with a new edge-to-edge design.
Users can click on Albums and get expanded details much like iOS and one can even add tracks to playlists which browsing through a library in split-screen mode.
Apple has not even left the Mini Player. It now features a more simplified interface with an integrated search. The app store built into iTunes also gets an overhaul with all the content taking center stage. Facebook is well integrated, so one can ‘like’ things right inside the App store and overall it seems like the new App store takes cues from Chomp an app discovery service Apple had acquired earlier in the year.
In the meanwhile, iTunes 10.7 is available for download for both Mac and PC which adds support for iOS 6 devices. This of course has been done because the new version of iTunes will not be available before October.
