Apple has been talking about lot of new features, especially about its own maps rather than Google Maps and a smarter Siri. However, most of the new features related to maps and Siri won’t be available in India. Read on for details.
The new maps developed by Apple are actually akin to take a few steps backwards than going forward. In India, these maps would have just the standard and satellite views (including a hybrid mode). Users won’t be able to look for directions forget turn-by-turn navigation or live traffic updates. This is a massive drawback considering Google introduced these features in an update for devices running on Android. Hopefully, Google would launch a Maps app for iOS just like it did for YouTube.
Even Siri would be limited and won’t get most of the new features in India. This could be related to input accent and localization issues but Siri won’t be able to give sport updates, restaurant information or movie showtimes. Apple says even Facebook and Twitter integration with Siri won’t be available in India.
At the iPhone 5 launch event yesterday, Apple had said it was expanding the number of countries where iTunes music, movies and other multimedia content would be available. Well, this shouldn’t come as a surprise that India is not in that list either.
You can check out the list of iOS 6 features that will be available in India here.
