Apple to reveal 8-pin Lightning connector, Earpod headsets, 2GB iPod Shuffle & Loop accessory for iPod touch

With less than 12 hours to go for probably the most anticipated tech event of the year, leaks are bound to start pouring in thick and fast.
9to5Mac has dirt on some of the accessories Apple is likely to reveal tonight including a new 8-pin connecting cable called Lightning, a new pair of earphones called Earpod, an accessory for a new iPod touch called Loop and a new 2GB iPod Shuffle.
The 8-pin dock connector has been leaked previously but it is the first time we are hearing what could be its possible name. Lightning would go well with Thunderbolt and could indicate faster transfer speeds. Apple is also expected to announce two tiny accessories – one for the new iDevices with the new port that would make them compatible with older generation 30-pin connectors and one for older accessories to make them compatible with the new 8-pin connector. The Lightning cable would cost $10.
The Earpod headphones could feature a new design that was leaked a few weeks ago. The design apparently provides better acoustics and has been designed to fit snugly into a user’s ear. This could be priced at $29. It is not confirmed whether it will be in the package with the new iPhone and iPod touch. We have no reason at the moment to believe why Apple won’t give them along, at least with the iPhone 5.
The iPod Shuffle is also likely to get upgraded, though we are not sure what (if any) will be the new features. It will start with 2GB capacity and is claimed to come in eight colors – pink, yellow, blue, green, purple, silver, slate and red.
It also seems that the new iPod touch is also a go as there are whispers of a ‘Loop’ accessory that will come in black, red, pink, yellow and blue. These are likely to cost $10 a piece, though we are not exactly sure what it does.
