Google Doodles 161st anniversary of Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick

Google has an oddball penchant for making doodles out of historic things. This time around it has doodled the 161st anniversary of Herman Melville’s landmark novel – Moby Dick.

Moby-Dick is a story that tells the sad story of Captain Ahab who is obsessed with capturing the legendary whale. The Doodle depicts a scene from the book showing Captain Ahab at the helm of a whaling boat with a harpoon in his hands as if he were preparing to strike the enigmatic white sperm whale.
Those who don’t know, Moby-Dick was published by Richard Bentley in London on October 18, 1851 as a three volume edition. Only weeks later, New York based publishers Harper and Brothers published it as single volume with the name Moby Dick or the Whale on November 18, 1851.
Moby-Dick is considered is literally masterpiece not only for American literature but the world over. Even in India it’s a must read for English Literature students.
