Samsung learned to KISS by observing Apple, internal document suggests

The ongoing patent infringement lawsuit between Apple and Samsung has thrown open many internal documents and practices from both companies. However, Apple seems to have found a smoking gun in the form of an internal Samsung report that compares its TouchWiz UI to Apple’s iOS and points out 126 UI related issues that Samsung needs to fix in its Galaxy smartphone after comparing it with iOS on the iPhone. Most of the screenshot comparisons, like the one shown here, point out how Samsung needs to KISS (Keep It Simple Silly) the UI and takes iOS as the benchmark.
The report compares almost every possible menu – right from how the home screen does not allow duplicate icons to individual keys on the keyboard to the calling menu, among others. Some of the crucial ones revolve around complicated UI to denote keys for changing the keyboard language, overlapping menus and missing options like the inability to add more cities to the weather app. The 132-page report, which is part of Apple’s evidence in the trial, even compares Samsung’s PC sync software KIES to iTunes. In short, Samsung wanted the Galaxy’s UI to look and function similar to iOS.
The document was first found by AllThingsD and can be downloaded from here.
