The reports states that 50 percent of the attacks involved online malware penetration attempts, a number which was 10 percent more than the previous quarter. Disturbingly, a total of 95,080,549 URLs serving malicious code were detected, which was 61 percent more than Q4 of 2011.
The report also talked about the changing trends in cyber crime. Notably, it talked about the revival of Botnets and the development of an invisible botnet, which would only exist in the RAM and would be literally file less. More disturbing is the fact that these botnets are not only targeting Windows and Mac OS X but also mobile devices.
Mac OS X has turned out be a popular haven for attacks. In Q1 Flashback botnet effected more 700,000 Macs across the globe and Kaspersky notes that this has started to happen because of relative weakness in the security of the platform combined by its sudden popularity.
